Syed M. Istiak is a technobusiness leader with over 27 years of experience in the fisheries, deep-sea fishing, and aquaculture industries. As the Business Director at ACI Agrolink, he plays a crucial role in guiding the company’s vision for innovation, sustainability, and growth. His leadership has had a significant impact on the aquaculture sector, especially in driving the growth of Bangladesh’s frozen seafood industry.
Istiak holds a Master of Science in Zoology and a Master of Science in Aquatic Resources Development from the University of Stirling, Scotland, funded by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. His expertise in seafood safety and aquaculture was further enhanced through specialized courses at the United Nations University, the University of Maryland, and Cornell University.
His contributions to the industry include developing innovative techniques such as seafood mixes, prawn ressois, cuttlefish-based sashimi meat, and the One Mother, One Tank system for producing WSSV-negative shrimp post-larvae. Istiak has also played a key role in national policy development for the fisheries industry and in the academic syllabus development for three fisheries universities, advocating for sustainable seafood practices and the blue economy.
In addition to his leadership at ACI Agrolink, Istiak holds several prestigious roles, including Chairman of ASAP Healthy Food Ltd. and Treasurer of the Bangladesh Association of Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows. He is an active member of organizations such as ZSB, BOF Golf Club, BFRF, BAA, and AFSA. He has authored 15 publications on sustainable aquaculture, with his work presented at international conferences.
